Although Potcakes display a wide variety of characteristics, they generally share certain physical traits due to their isolated gene pools. Each island's gene pool is slightly different, accounting for the variations between islands. The typical Potcake has a smooth, short coat, little or no undercoat, long snouts and crazy ears. Colors vary widely, including black, white, yellow and brown. They generally have the same temperaments: laid-back, smart, good with children, other dogs and cats. They usually reach 45-55 pounds when full grown, although some of the smaller potcakes only weigh in around 40. They make great family pets! [from Wikipedia] The Potcake was originally referred to as a mongrel, and later renamed by the Bahamas Kennel Club as 'The Royal Bahamian Potcake'. This young pup was found burning in the dump. The whole litter was left in a box at the dump and this was the only survivor after the routine burning. He is maybe 4-5 months old, with burnt ears which have healed very well. His coat is currently singed short but should grow to normal length. He's quite a shy pup, as to be expected, but loves a lap to sit on. Please give this poor guy a home! |
